Community: Wolftrap Estates in York County VA

As an experienced Hampton Roads Realtor that has helped hundreds of families find their perfect home, I know there are many factors to consider. Granted, location, price and feature requirements are top priorities. However, the surrounding neighborhood can be just as important when it comes to choosing a favorite house to call home.

Recently, my team hosted an evening pre Thanksgiving pie tasting open house at our listing in Wolftrap Estates. Made up of less than 50 homes, this quiet York Co. community has always been popular. Rather than assuming that a few curious neighbors would stop by, I personally invited each of them. As I walked around and handed out invites, I was greeted with genuine friendliness and neighbors confirming they would attend. I happened upon several neighbors walking and talking with each other as school -aged kids ran ahead of them. Many of those same neighbors walked to each others' homes and continued to visit. Several neighbors and their dogs met up and walked around the block together. Instead of ignoring me or looking at me suspiciously as I approached, I was greeted with reciprocated smiles and waves. By the time I was finished, my mind was made up. Wolftrap Estates needed to be featured in our Community Spotlight blog.

Don and Paige Fraasch of 104 David's Way were happy to add their two cents to a recent Q & A session about living in Wolftrap Estates. Not only have they resided here for over 7 years, they've watched two daughters play soccer on the fields behind them as well as graduate from York High School. Check out their helpful tips and tidbits about the neighborhood they love and the home they adore.

Question: When you think of Wolftrap Estates and zip code 23692, what are the 1st three words that come to mind?
Paige: Schools, friendly, and convenient

Question: What's your favorite local “ hot spot” in zip code 23692?
Don: Hand's down, it's Pop's Drive-In. Good-tasting food for next to nothing. We like to sit at the community table and catch up with other locals. Just remember to bring cash- no debit or credit cards accepted here.

Question: What's the top reason you love Wolftrap Estates and more specifically, 104 David's Way?
Paige: It was a no-brainer for us. We wanted a home that gave us plenty of room and was zoned for one of the best school districts in the area.

Question: In your eyes, what makes this neighborhood unique from others that you considered?
Don: Backing to the Wolftrap Park soccer fields gives our street a private feel, no matter the time of year. There's no association ; folks in this neighborhood don't need to pay fees or have rules to know what pride of ownership means.
Paige: It's a small neighborhood; we like the cozy feel. The neighbors are friendly and it's common for everyone to get together for block parties. Wolftrap Estates even has an annual party for the adults after all the kids are done trick 'r treating.

Question: You're right about everyone being friendly! Let's chat specifically about your home at 104 David's Way. What are your favorite features?
Don: I like having the family room right off the kitchen and a large master bedroom that fits our king-sized bed.
Paige: I'm going to miss the screened porch out back and our big, open kitchen! They have been my favorite since the day I first viewed the home.

Question:What are your fondest memories from living at David's Way?
Paige: Christmas has always been wonderful in this home!

Take it from Scott and Ellen Erickson; they know Huntington Heights. Not only have they resided at 327 52nd Street for the past 26 years, they’ve raised two children, chased a grandson through the yard & lovingly remodeled this home.   • Q: When you think of Huntington Heights and zip code 23607, what are the 1st three words that come to mind?
  • A: Scott: Historic, Shipyard, and water
  • Q: What’s your favorite local hotspot in zip code 23607?
  • A: Ellen:The Crab Shack; located right at the James River Bridge and fishing pier. The food’s always great and the views are amazing!
  • Q: What’s the top reason you love Huntington Heights and more specifically, 52nd Street?
  • A. Ellen: When we were looking for a home, we needed a spot that was in close proximity to the interstate as Scott was commuting to Norfolk. Huntington Heights offered that and so much more.
  • Q: In your eyes, what makes this neighborhood unique from others that you considered?
  • A: Ellen: That’s easy! The historic homes are unlike any other location in Newport News. We weren’t looking for a cookie cutter community. We wanted character.
  • Q: What other advantages does the location of Huntington Heights offer?
  • A: Scott: I enjoy how close we are to Hampton’s Power Plant, especially Bass Pro Shop!
  • Ellen: I prefer strolling around the revamped Peninsula Town Center, (formally Hampton’s Coliseum Mall). When our grandson Max visits, I take him there so he can play in the springing fountains.
  • Q: Let’s chat specifically about your home at 327 52nd Street. Talk about curb appeal! The front porch is massive! Plus, you have an elevator?! What are your favorite features?
  • A: Scott: The large windows have always been the best; we love the natural light.
  • Q: What are your fondest memories that tie to your lovely home on 52nd Street?
  • A: Ellen: The main staircase always lent itself to making special times extra special. Especially on Christmas mornings and school dances with the kids, it provided for a grand entrance.
