Home Improvement Project Description:

We've never done anything like this. Framing, floor and wall prep, floor tile, wall tile, laminate flooring, etc ... no experience. We did not do plumbing and electric. Overall, it really isn't that hard. Follow directions from YouTube channels (Home Depot has some good ones). Had to watch the videos many many times. I also tend to watch videos of what not to do. Those are sometimes more helpful. We didn't realise it at the time, but we picked the hardest type of each thing we had to install. Just like every other home improvement project, we spent 80% of the time on the prep work. It is so tempting to cut corners, but it never works out. Overall, we're very happy with how things turned out. The bathroom feels 10 times bigger.

We added a stamped concrete patio with an outdoor bar. The Outdoor bar has an open air structure with a tin roof. We also added fencing to create a wall behind the bar. It's like a tropical oasis in our back yard.

Home Improvement Project Description:

We purchased our home through this realty company - Cindy Matchinis was our realtor. It was a very antiquated 25plus year old home that needed updating. Our realtor convinced us that with very little effort, we could make this our dream home. And she was right - - we bought this house, with the help of Cindy, for a steal, and have not had to spend too much to get it to look beautiful. We are still enjoying fixing it up, room by room, currently, we took down the old deck, and are having a new one built.

Home Improvement Project Description:

Huge job was painting the entire inside of the house top to bottom. Changing all light fixtures and putting up fans in rooms where there were none. Door locks especially the front door "knob" had to change immediately. We were unable to open the front door b/c of the old knob and lock. First month living in the house was a constant revolving door of painters, plumbers, electricians, hvac & general contractors. Re-modeling the basement was another huge project to make it suitable for my mom to have her own living space and feel independent as well.

Home Improvement Project Description:

We chose Bertrand Homes of Virginia, Inc. and Southern Escapes Landscaping to help us design an outdoor living space. We have a door leading out from walkout basement and a door from our morning room. We wanted an area that would flow while entertaining. Bertrand Homes of Virginia, Inc. built a deck off of our morning room and screen porch off of the basement. Southern Escapes Landscaping built a retaining wall, beautiful two-tiered hardscape as well as landscaping.

Home Improvement Project Description:

When we bought our home we knew renovating the kitchen was a priority.  The original kitchen was traditional, everything was white and it really didn't fit with the modern design of the condo.  Good news, the space was big enough to incorporate all our wants and needs.

We love to cook, since natural gas was not an option we opted for the precision of an induction stovetop. It's a lot easier to clean than the gas stove in my former home. We splurged on the Bosch double wall ovens, they are great for the holiday cooking and for entertaining.  The bank of new cabinets and drawers provides ample storage for all my dishes, pots & pans, small appliances, and pantry items.  The end cabinet also has a bookcase to hide all my cookbooks!

Our living room and kitchen are together.  One concern we had with the open floor concept was noise.  So when we picked out the dishwasher and garbage disposal, we paid particular attention to the noise level ratings.  We have not been disappointed with the Bosch SilencePlus model.   We forwent the double porcelain sink for a bigger commercial stainless steel style under-mount sink.....much easier to wash those big pots and pans!

We were committed to having a large island in one piece, no seams!  This island functions as a food prep area, breakfast nook and a buffet for entertaining.  The biggest challenge during the reno was getting the 12 ft countertop into our 4th floor condo.  The contractor ended up using a crane to bring the large piece of quartz through our balcony...which just happened to be the coldest day of the year.

Now that it is all done, I love it even more.  The contrast between the white and dark wood cabinets and the terra cotta tile makes the dramatic statement we were looking for and complements the condo's modern style.  Our contractor, Adam at GC Commercial, Inc, really did a fabulous job giving us the kitchen of our dreams!

Home Improvement Project Description:

When we found our house we knew that it was perfect for us, or would be. The home had a good basic layout, the right rooms, it was a blank slate. We started by painting all the rooms. This helped to make it our own. Once that began there was no stopping us. We tackled the half bath under the stairs then renovated our kitchen. Once we finished the kitchen, with its new laminate floors, the carpets had to go. We painted the exterior, installed new windows, stained the deck, wallpapered/painted the master bedroom, all we have left are the upstairs bathrooms.

Home Improvement Project Description:

We moved into a brand new home so there were only a few projects we immediately wanted to accomplish.

1) An Office - I work from home full time and so wanted an office without taking a spare bedroom. We had walls added around the existing columns of the dining room which was at the front of the house, plus added french doors. This new room has also provided a more defined entry way from the front door.

2) Fireplace Wall - The second project was to make the fireplace more of a focal point. We added the white built in cabinets on each side of the fireplace for display and storage. The area above the mantle was the only place to hang the TV and it was too high in it's original state. We lowered the mantle and beefed it up with a solid piece of wood and ship-lap to tie both of the bookshelves together.
